Solway 2013 Regs

Wigton MC “We have pleasure in inviting you to take part in the Solway Historic Rally or Solway Saunter. Following the success of the Solway Classic Weekend last year we are continuing with a similar format. For those with long memories the Solway was a popular stage rally for many years and the first event of that name gave a seventeen year old Malcolm Wilson his first outright win. The rally was later run as the first historic rally in the North. The event is being run to aid local good causes.

The event will start and finish at the Rowrah kart track. 50 cars will take part in the competitive event over fourteen tests along the route while an additional 40 cars will follow a similar, but more scenic, route in a non competitive “Saunter”. The Rally entries will run on the odd numbers and the Tour entries on the even numbers.

The event is compact with a maximum of 100 road miles in west and north Cumbria taking in some of the lesser known areas of our beautiful county.

The event is run as a closed to club event to avoid the cost of an MSA competition licence. WMC membership is included in the entry fee and will run until December 2014.

As part of the Go Motorsport Initiative we are offering a Free Entry to the first three absolute novice crews to enter. Neither crew member must have competed in any rally previously. The £75 entry fee will be waived for the first three such entries received by post by the entries secretary. The entries can be for
either event.

Navigation will be by a simple tulip road book.

The Solway Historic Rally is open to all pre 1975 cars for class and overall awards and will also have a separate class for 1975 to 1981 cars complying with road rally regulations but these will not be eligible for overall awards. There will be an additional Targa event for post 81 cars complying with road rally regulations.

The Solway Saunter Tour is open to all classic and interesting cars of any age. This completely non
competitive. It will follow a scenic route close to that of the rallies and use the same halts.

The major award on the Rally is the Index of Performance based on a class winner’s time as a percentage of the first four in his class.

The entry fee for the Solway Historic, Targa and Saunter will include: coffee and bacon roll at the start, a light lunch and a plated meal at the finish.

Final Instructions will be emailed to the driver a week before the event.

We look forward to seeing you but do please remember that we expect our event to fill up very quickly!”
