Northumberland Borders 2016 Regs

“We have pleasure in inviting you to take part in the ninth edition of the Northumberland Borders Rally – a unique navigational rally for classic Minis taking place this year on Saturday the 22nd of October.

For 2016, we will be keeping to the tried and tested format from previous years.

There will again be a packed afternoon of timed tests on private land, with interesting and challenging features for crews to enjoy.

After a rest break and results from the first leg, there will then be a ‘half-night’ navigational rally through the finest rallying roads Northumberland has to offer.

Running alongside the Borders again will be its sister event, the Tynedale Rally, a 12-car navigational rally for which MSA competition licences will not be required. Catering specifically for novice and first time rallyists, this will run to a similar format, but feature a reduced mileage on the leg after dark and involve simpler navigation.

The start point for both rallies will again be Vallum www.vallum.co.uk in the heart of Hadrian’s Wall country while the finish will be in the surroundings of the excellent Riverdale Hall Hotel www.riverdalehallhotel.co.uk in Bellingham near Kielder Water.

The start from Vallum will be at 1.30pm on the day and the finish, for around 10pm.

Borders crews will take in around 130 miles on OS maps 87 (Hexham & Haltwhistle) & 88 (Newcastle-upon-Tyne) and the Tynedale, 90 miles.

The day’s proceedings will culminate with a free meal both for crews and marshals at the finish, where discounted accommodation will also be available.

Entries can be made either using the entry form that accompanies these regulations or via a web entry system offered by rallies.info. We would appreciate crews entering as early as possible, as this helps us plan and meet all the necessary deadlines in the weeks leading up to the events.

Consequently, we are offering a £10 discount for those made before 1st September.

Both events will be open to classic Mini saloons only, with entries again invited from members of the organising club, the Mini Cooper Register (MCR) and selected MSA member clubs including the Historic Rally Car Register (HRCR).

For the second year running, we are also pleased to welcome Mini crews taking part in the HRCR’s Premier Rally Championship https://premierrally.co.uk/, an exciting new initiative for road rallying that encompasses a range of events and different types of car.

We are grateful for the continued sponsorship of YBracing, one of the UK’s largest suppliers of Motorsport equipment and of OMP products, who have generously backed the rally since its inception in 2008. We are also delighted to welcome back Vallum as co-sponsor for third year running.

As ever, our chosen charity for a raffle to be held on the day will be WaterAid, the international charity transforming lives by improving access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation. We hope all those involved continue to show their great generosity and support this most worthy cause by buying tickets and/or donating prizes.

We look forward to seeing everyone on the day and promise a warm welcome and a great value motor sport event on classic roads”
