Winner for the second consecutive year of ‘Rally of the Year’ at the International Historic Motoring Awards and winner of the 2015 FIA ‘FMC Heritage Cup’. The Royal Automobile Club 1000 Mile Trial sets the standard for pre-war events.

It’s 1899 and a large number of the people in Britain had not seen a motor car. In fact people are laughing at the idea that the motor car could become a commercial or practical success.
To show off the motor car an adventure was planned – tour Britain visiting major towns and cities, allowing the public to see and touch the motor car and watch them drive by. The event was planned for spring 1900; One thousand miles as an extensive demonstration trial organised by the Automobile Club. The intent was simple, test human endurance as well as the machinery for reliability and safety.
The Royal Automobile Club 1000 Mile Trial caught the imagination of competitors and the public alike in 2014 and 2015, wherever the event visited, crowds of people came to see the wonderful pre-war vehicles. As well as being the premier reliability trial for pre-war vehicles in the UK, the 1000 Mile Trial is a superb social event, the accommodation, food and hospitality is of the highest standard. Add to this visits to elegant stately homes, castles and museums, you then start to see why the event is so successful.
Navigation used on the event is straightforward, it comprises of basic map reading and Tulip diagrams, the event is classified as Intermediate because of this. The route is designed to be sympathetic for the vehicles taking part, there may be very limited use of loose surfaces, most of the event is run on sealed tarmac. Even though the classification is Intermediate, the event is suitable for all levels of experience, there is on-event competitor assistance should you be new to reliability trials.
2016 Royal Automobile Club 1000 Mile Trial
Starting this year from Edinburgh, the beautiful capital of Scotland you will be welcomed in a style that is unique to the 1000 Mile Trial – a welcome dinner on board Royal Yacht Britannia before the rest of the week’s adventure unfolds before you.
The 2016 event has a new look to it – the route this year being one-way from Edinburgh to Woodcote Park – allowing the route co-ordinators to find the best roads, lanes and venues that are established as a part of this truly historic event. Although at first glance the route may seem linear, as the event unfolds, you will find that the days bring you even more chance to explore the countryside and compete with your fellow participants in what will once again be a ground-breaking event.
The Royal Automobile Club 1000 Mile Trial has now become the must do event for pre-war vehicle owners, any automobile registered prior to 1940 is eligible, from an Austin to a Rolls-Royce, this event caters for all vehicles of a certain age! Add to this a style and glamour that cannot be found elsewhere and it soon becomes clear why the event has received so many accolades and awards since the second running in 2014.

Intermediate, it includes straight forward tulip style instructions but has some sections defined by an easy to read map. The event is suitable for novice or first time competitors.”
