Tour of Anglesey 2016 Regs

“To celebrate the Caernarvonshire & Anglesey Motor Club’s 80th anniversary we have decided to run an event as similar as possible to events such as the inaugural Palferman Trophy Rally, which kick-started the club way back in 1936. Events then had a night road section timed to the minute, up to 250 miles in length, with tests, or ‘Trials’, normally on a long uphill climb (on the public roads which were normally unsealed) timed to the second.

Of course, most of the roads and cars of today are much wider, faster and of better quality. To emulate the style of event as close as possible we will once again used the tried and tested format of the ‘Tour of Anglesey’, last run in 2010.

The first car will start from the Anglesey Showground at 5pm for a daytime leg of Special Tests at various private venues, linked by Neutral Sections. After a re-group rest halt back at the Showground the action re-starts at 11:30pm. This comprises a 60 mile loop over some of the best lanes on the Isle of Anglesey, with long plot’n’bash style Standard Sections, keeping Neutral mileage and the number of Passage Controls down to a minimum. The event ends with a final blast around the Go Cart Track Special Test at Cartio Môn, before a well-deserved breakfast at 2am, followed by results and awards presentation at approximately 4am.

We are pleased to be part of the ANWCC ROAD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP, and the GLYNNE EDWARDS MEMORIAL CHAMPIONSHIP, so anticipate a capacity entry. Get your “old fashioned style” paper entry form in ASAP to avoid disappointment.

The route in total will be approximately 90 miles in length and, whilst some of the tests are on loose surface, the whole route has been traversed in a completely standard road car (Corsa C Sri). This means it is possible to use your standard car, however, we always recommend under-body protection for the more eager drivers. In order to preserve the road surfaces of test venues and to avoid the dilemma of what pattern tyre to go for, we will only permit non-aggressive patterns. No aggressive M&S or gravel /forest pattern tyres.

The only map you need to bring is an O/S 1:50,000 scale Map 114 ‘Anglesey’ (latest edition) for the night section. A Roadbook will be supplied for the daytime navigation between Tests.

Examples of Route Instruction formats will be issued with the Final Instructions”
